Qatar Welcomes the Election of Kuwait as Non-Permanent Member of the Security Council

The State of Qatar welcomed the election of the State of Kuwait as a non-permanent of the United Nations Security Council, which was held by the UN General Assembly to choose the five non-permanent members for the years 2018 and 2019.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement released today that the election of the State of Kuwait reflects its high status internationally, due to its wise policies and transparent and balanced diplomacy.

The statement stressed that Kuwait's gaining of the seat will enhance the security and the stability of the region in line with the principles of the UN Charter and the provisions of international law. The foreign ministry's statement then expressed the State of Qatar's confidence that the State of Kuwait can benefit from its distinguished relationship with UN members, particularly in the Middle-East, will help follow up the implementation of Security Council resolutions related to crises in the region. The State of Kuwait will also encourage the Security Council to prevent any further crises through Preventive diplomacy.
