The State of Qatar welcomed the Russian-Turkish agreement on the establishment of a demilitarized zone in Idlib Governorate, north-west of Syria, between the armed Syrian opposition and the Syrian regime forces.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that this important agreement contributes to stopping the bloodshed of innocents and sparing the region a great humanitarian disaster.

The ministry stressed that reaching this agreement demonstrates the possibility of concerted international and regional efforts in order to resolve the existing conflict and establish the foundations of a just peace between the conflicting parties in the Syrian war.

The statement affirmed Qatar's full support for all efforts aimed at reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis on the basis of the Geneva communique 1 and relevant Security Council resolutions to meet the legitimate aspirations of the brotherly Syrian people.
