Ministry of Foreign Affairs Honors Two Winners of Qatar Global Award for Dialogue Among Civilizations

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs honored on Sunday the two winners of the Qatar Global Award for Dialogue Among Civilizations in its second edition, which is supervised by the Qatari Committee for the Alliance of Civilization in the Ministry, and ISESCO Chair in Alliance of Civilizations at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University.

The honor came on the sidelines of the works of Doha Forum 2019, where HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, honored each of the winner Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Abdelsalam from Egypt, for his research entitled "The Impact of Muslim Migration on the Culture and Arts of the Far East" and the second winner Dr. Bachir Khalafi from Algeria came for his research "Muslim immigrants in the West between identity requirements and the requirements of citizenship".

On this occasion, HE President of Qatar University Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham, in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), indicated that this annual award, which is sponsored by HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, in a short time, achieved an expansion of participation at the international level, a depth in the method and scientific content, and an important influence in the field of civilized dialogue.

His Excellency said that the university is proud of the success achieved so far in the award, and the research and academic mobility it has brought about in the field of dialogue among civilizations, and the study of rapprochement between nations and peoples.

For his part, the Dean of the College of Sharia at Qatar University Dr. Ibrahim Abdulla Al Ansari pointed out the scientific level reached by the awards researches for this year, and the topics that were addressed in its second and purposeful edition to deepening civilizational dialogue in line with the efforts of the State of Qatar in this regard.

He pointed to the efforts of the College of Sharia in the field of civilizational dialogue, saying in this regard, that the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University has made great efforts, as an institution to enhance originality and document intellectual and practical trends and activate civilization dialogue, to protect and enhance the Islamic identity and activate its effect in reality locally and globally.

The two winners praised the efforts of the State of Qatar in the field of activating dialogue between civilizations and launching qualitative initiatives at various diplomatic, humanitarian, civilizational and cultural levels, which made it an example to be followed in these fields.

Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Abdelsalam, the first place winner, said in a statement to QNA that this award is the most important for him, being from the State of Qatar and because it is the first after obtaining a doctorate, and this is what makes him more pleased.

He considered that the award reflects the role of the State of Qatar and its active presence in all political, cultural, civilizational and educational fields, noting the honorable stances of the State of Qatar in caring for Muslim issues in all countries of the world.

He also added that it is an honor for him to receive this award from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Qatar University, expressing his admiration for this cultural, scientific and research movement that characterizes the State of Qatar.

In a similar statement, the award's second winner, Dr. Bachir Khalafi, thanked the organizers of this award adding that this award is distinguished by sober professional work and despite the participation of many work papers, only two papers won the award this year, which reflects the high standards followed in the evaluation.

He also noted the efforts of the State of Qatar in establishing the award related to the dialogue of civilizations, adding, there are two important issues which are dialogue and civilizations, and they contain positive meanings for coexistence.

He pointed out that winning the second place also reflects the level of research progress in Algeria, its scientific and research capabilities, and its ability to provide research and scientific content capable of competing at various levels.

The honoring ceremony was attended by HE the Algerian Ambassador to the country Mustafa Boutoura, and several leaders of Qatar University and members of the faculty there, as well as members of the award jury.
