The Office of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized a celebration on the occasion of "United Nations Day", as part of the celebration of the anniversary of the founding of the international organization, which falls on the October 24th of each year. This event comes within the framework of preparing for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the organization, which will be held next year, to establish "a comprehensive global dialogue for international cooperation, and focuses on finding positive aspects of the difference."

The ceremony held today at the Diplomatic Club was attended by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammad Al-Muraikhi, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Muraikhi, HE President of the General Assembly of the United Nations Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, and a number of Their Excellencies heads of diplomatic missions and offices accredited to the State, along with representatives of civil society and social and charitable institutions.

In his speech at the beginning of the ceremony, HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, stressed the important and clear role that the United Nations plays in many political, economic, social, humanitarian, environmental, cultural and educational fields, which contributed to the independence of many countries and the solution of many political differences, which enable States to maintain their international sovereignty, thereby building on the United Nations approach to achieving international peace and security.

His Excellency pointed out that this makes it obligatory for all , as members of the family of this house, collective cooperation to create appropriate and effective solutions that translate the Charter of the United Nations and its principles to achieve the desired civilization renaissance, which calls for adopting a policy of uniting ranks and rejecting divisions to achieve the common interests of the peoples of the international community.

HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs also noted the continuation of the strategic partnership between the State of Qatar and the United Nations to achieve the goals of the organization's charter, by supporting international development efforts and promoting and consolidating human rights, in addition to active participation in efforts and collective initiatives to address the challenges facing our world so that the State of Qatar is thus within list of the largest partners supporting this organization in various fields.

HE the Minister highlighted a number of projects that come within the framework of the strategic partnership and the efforts made by the State of Qatar in support of the goals of the United Nations, including / the United Nations House / which will be hosted by Doha in the near future, and it includes offices for various organs of the international organization concerned with peace, development, human rights and sovereignty Law, humanitarian action, and combating terrorism and extremism, with the aim of enabling these agencies to perform their duties optimally.

He went on to review these projects: "Last September, Qatar announced that it would provide additional support for the core resources of the United Nations with the amount of $ 500 million, as well as the State of Qatar's continued active participation in international efforts to combat violent extremism, which resulted in a partnership contract with an office of the United Nations to combat terrorism and provide $ 75 million in order to enhance the capacity of the office, in addition to opening the United Nations Center for the Application of Behavioral and Counter-Terrorism Visions. "

His Excellency also indicated the pledges of the State of Qatar to lead the coalition on financing climate activities and carbon pricing in partnership, in addition to the announcement of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al -Thani, about the contribution of the State of Qatar with $100 million to support the island developing countries and the least countries Growth to deal with climate change, during the country's participation in the United Nations Climate Summit in New York on the sidelines of the General Assembly in its 74th session.

HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, concluded his speech by emphasizing that the continuous partnership between the State of Qatar and the United Nations reflects the firm belief of the State of Qatar in embodying the principles of the United Nations to form a concrete reality capable of overcoming international crises by working to achieve international peace and security and combating terrorism Achieving the goals of sustainable development and facing common challenges, with the aim of achieving the hopes and aspirations of peoples in creating a peaceful world.

For his part, HE Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Muraikhi, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations thanked the State of Qatar for the continuous support it has shown in supporting the efforts of the United Nations, noting that the State of Qatar is one of the major donors to the United Nations organizations, as it is one of supporters of the multilateral system for building relationships with United Nations organizations.

His Excellency said that the "United Nations Day" is a day for celebration, discussion and action, and it is an opportunity to present the efforts of the United Nations and gathering around the goals and principles of the organization, at a time when the world needs collective action more than ever "as support for global cooperation is dwindling, besides the decline in public confidence in many countries in traditional institutions, as relations between countries are subject to tension. "

HE added that addressing issues such as climate crisis, inequality, new patterns of violence and the main changes that we see in population and technology and in order to achieve sustainable development goals, which are summarized in the slogan / common vision of the future / requires cooperation across borders, sectors and generations, stressing that the global dialogue would lead to pushing the talks at all levels, from the classrooms to the halls of the boards of directors and parliaments to the villages, as well as highlighting the voices of those who are mostly marginalized, including youth.

In turn, HE President of the General Assembly of the United Nations Tijjani Muhammad-Bande thanked the State of Qatar for the strategic relationship it brings with the United Nations, and also expressed his happiness to participate in this celebration, which coincided with the convening of the "Doha Forum", which discussed important issues, stressing the importance of the "Doha Forum" and the importance of the discussions that took place during it, describing them as "in-depth and broad" discussions.

He added that the theme of the "Doha Forum" which focused on governance and youth stems from the great importance of youth because they are the energy of the future, pointing out in the same context to the world's need for energy and governance to face the issues that concern it, which was already discussed during the forum.

His Excellency stressed the importance of cooperation and partnership between Qatar and the United Nations, praising the efforts of the State of Qatar in various fields such as empowering youth, supporting education and health, and caring for issues of women, children, people with special needs and the elderly, stressing that education is an important issue which, by focusing on it, the world can overcome many obstacles And the problems that bother it .

On the sidelines of the celebration of the United Nations Day, a discussion session was held on the partnership between the State of Qatar and the United Nations, and the experience of civil society institutions in the existing cooperation between them and the United Nations agencies, especially in the humanitarian and development field. Speaking at it were Youssef Ahmed Al-Kuwari, CEO of Qatar Charity, Amal Al-Mannai, CEO of Qatar Foundation for Social Work (QFSW), CEO of the Qatar Financial Center Authority Youssef Mohamed Al-Jaidah and Sabah Al-Haydos, CEO of Silatech.

The session also featured a number of important issues related to the partnership with the United Nations agencies and the challenges facing that partnership, and the issues of women, human development and sustainable development.

It also discussed the challenges faced by the United Nations agencies, especially those working in the humanitarian and relief field, and among those challenges are the crisis of confidence faced by civil society, how to overcome those problematic means and mechanisms to restore confidence in the organization and the efforts it exerts to achieve its goals.
