The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) signed, via video conferencing, the Institute's host country agreement, on the occasion of the official opening of the Institute's office in Doha.

The Agreement was signed by HE Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ahmed Hassan Al Hammadi and HE GGGI Director-General Frank Rijsberman, in presence of HE Qatar's Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Haiki and HE GGGI's Deputy Director General Hyoeun Jenny Kim.

The State of Qatar was one of the sixteen founding countries of the Global Green Growth Institute in 2012, an intergovernmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.

In 2019, the GGGI and the Qatar's Ministry of Municipality and Environment launched a cooperation program on activities that enhance the environmental balance in Qatar, in light of the unprecedented urban, economic and social progress that has been made.

Speaking on the occasion, HE Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered congratulations to GGGI for its expansion in the State of Qatar.

His Excellency affirmed that the State of Qatar was among the first countries to join the treaty establishing the Institute in 2012, when it contributed USD 10 million, pointing that the State of Qatar represented by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment is a member of the institute's advisory board for the next two years.

He also referred to that the State of Qatar had adopted the proposal, on opening an office for the Institute, since it was presented in 2012 by the Institute's officials, until signing an agreement to host the office of the Global Institute for Green Growth in Doha.

His Excellency valued the State of Qatar's strategic partnership with the Institute and expressed hope for the continuation of cooperation between the two sides to enhance environmental development, which is one of the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030.

IN conclusion, HE Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed the State of Qatar's position in support of the Institute to achieve its environmental goals which are consistent with the thirteenth goal of the United Nations sustainable development goals, "the climate action."

It is worth noting that the host country agreement represents the commitment of the State of Qatar to continue its cooperation with the Global Green Growth Institute to promote environmental development.
