His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani participated in the inauguration ceremony of the "Scoring for Goals" event, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The inauguration ceremony was attended by His Excellency President Guillermo Laso, President of the Republic of Ecuador, His Excellency Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, His Excellency Mr. Chapa Kuroshi, President of the 77th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, and Her Excellency Amina Mohamed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The ceremony was also attended by Her Excellency Minister of Education and Higher Education Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, and His Excellency Mr. Hassan Al Thawadi the Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and Her Excellency Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, along with a number of officials and a high-level presence from the United Nations General Secretariat.

The ceremony comes within the framework of Qatar's preparations to host a sustainable version of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which is considered the most environmentally friendly in the history of world football championships.

The event is inspired by General Assembly Resolution No. 76/259, which highlights the value of football in promoting sustainable development, peace, tolerance, inclusion and climate action.

The inauguration ceremony included a short film focusing on the seventeen sustainable development goals. Recalling that the world will gather on November 20 to witness the power of football as a tool for promoting peace and development, respecting human rights, achieving gender equality, empowering women, girls and youth, and tackling climate change.

The tournament, which is the most environmentally friendly version in the history of the World Cup, aims to achieve tangible progress towards the sustainable development goals that stipulated the United Nations action plan to achieve sustainable development by 2030, and was affirmed in General Assembly resolution A / RES / 76/259 entitled FIFA, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
