The State of Qatar strongly condemns the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran by an extremist in the Swedish city of Malmo with the knowledge of the local authorities. It considers this heinous incident a deliberate act of incitement that deliberately stirs public opinion and inflames the feelings of Muslims. In addition, it calls on the Swedish authorities to take all necessary measures to stop these shameful practices.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns that allowing the infringement of the Holy Quran again under the pretext of freedom of expression fuels hatred and violence, and threatens the values of peaceful coexistence.

The Ministry stresses Qatar’s total rejection of all forms of hate speech based on belief, race or religion. It also warns that hate campaigns against Islam and Islamophobia discourse have witnessed a serious escalation with the continued systematic calls for repeated targeting of Muslims in the world.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates Qatar’s full support for the values of tolerance, and its keenness to establish the principles of international peace and security through dialogue and mutual understanding.
