Gaza / Information Office / April 28

HE Chairman of Qatar's Gaza Reconstruction Committee Ambassador Mohammed Al Emadi said that the Committee, in coordination with Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has delivered the first financial payment of the State of Qatar's grant to a number of beneficiaries from the Maskan Kareem (A Decent House) project to renovate the homes of the poor in Gaza Strip.

Ambassador Al Emadi explained that about 120 families in Gaza Strip are expected to benefit from USD 1 million grant for renovating the homes of the poor.

HE pointed out that the process of selecting the beneficiary families was done in cooperation with the Public Works Ministry for those classified in the Ministry's lists as the worst cases economically and most in need of restoration, which met the criteria for benefiting from the project. The criteria suggests that the beneficiary must not have a stable source of income and that there must be at least seven family member or more, with priority given to widows, orphans and chronic disease patients.

Ambassador Al Emadi said that the first financial payment was delivered through the post offices in Gaza for about 60 of the families who have met the necessary procedures to begin the restoration, while the rest will be distributed to the rest of the families in the coming days.
