 Qatar Committed to Promoting and Protecting Persons with Disabilities Rights

Geneva/ Information Office/ 10 March 2015/The State of Qatar has underlined that the promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities in accordance with the rights-based approach is among the priorities of the State policy and where the promotion and protection of human rights is a strategic choice, as was emphasized in the Qatar national vision "2030", and the national development strategy (2011-2016). This came in Qatar's speech delivered here today by the Researcher in the human rights Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Noemi Al Hajri at the 28th session of the Human Rights Council Regulation (3) "interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities". Al Hajiri noted that Qatar has taken a number of actions and measures in order to continue its efforts in the promotion and protection of the rights of the disabled, such as the preparation of a draft law amending some provisions of law No. 2 of 2004 concerning the special needs to comply with the State adoption of the International Convention on the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, as well as the preparation of draft decisions of the Council of Ministers in the fields (education, health care, employment, housing, public and private utilities, culture and sports) for the benefit of the disabled.
