Istanbul/ Information Office/ 17 October 2015/ UN High Representative of the Alliance of Civilizations HE Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser has called for concerted international efforts by civil society organizations as well as regional and international organizations in order to find long-term solutions to the crisis of immigration and immigrants which is exacerbated in a manner not seen since the World War II. He also called for respecting the human rights of migrants. Addressing an International Conference on Migration and Development, which concluded in Istanbul yesterday, HE Al Nasser stressed the need for integration of immigrants into society and change the negative perception of migrants in general by educating the media that cover topics related to migration, noting that the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations is working in this direction through organizing workshops for the journalists in order to build their competence in the press coverage of those topics. The Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu opened the Conference and welcomed HE Al Nasser's participation. The three-day conference discussions centered on ways to protect migrants' rights, ways to integrate immigrants into the societies to which they migrate and role of immigrants in contributing to the process of sustainable development.
