Gaza /Information Office/ 16 January 2016/ The Qatari Committee for Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip celebrated today, the completion of the first phase of the city of HH Sheikh Hamad and distribution of 1060 housing units for a number of Palestinian families benefiting from this project. HE Ambassador Mohammed Al Emadi, Chairman of the Qatari Committee for Reconstruction of Gaza, expressed his pleasure over the completion of the first phase of the city of HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and the distribution of 1060 housing units to the beneficiaries of this stage as one of three stages of the project. HE ambassador Emadi was speaking during the celebration of distribution of the housing units organized by the Qatari Committee in collaboration with the Palestinian Ministry of Public Works and Housing today on the territory of the city. He announced the completion of more than 25 percent of the second phase of HH Sheikh Hamad city which will include about 1,200 housing units. He stressed the keenness of the State of Qatar to do everything in its power to help alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza in all walks of life including electricity, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and housing as well as rebuilding destroyed houses and other projects funded by the State of Qatar in order to improve the living conditions of the citizens of the Gaza Strip. Addressing the event, Deputy Chief of Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh said that Hamad Rehabilitation and Prosthetics hospital is due to be open, within the Qatari committee projects. He extended thanks to the government and people of the State of Qatar for the projects being carried out in Gaza. Qatari leadership, government and people have supported Gaza, for what Gaza means to the Arab and Muslim nations, Haniyeh said adding that Gaza has given the finest examples in resistance and steadfastness. This is the day to acknowledge HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Arab leader who supported Palestine and Gaza and who challenged the siege expressing his genuine Arab stances through actions, not in speeches, Haniyeh added. For his part, Palestinian Minister of Public Works and Housing Mofeed Al-Hasayneh said this that this is a day for celebrating Qatari-Palestinian ties, explaining that during the past decade, Gaza Strip suffered great injustice through three wars causing unemployment, poverty and the deficit in the housing units. Still, Gaza withstood, he added. Al-Hasayneh said that Gaza is in need for 130 thousand residential units, pointing that the first phase of HH the Father Emir's project involve the distribution of 1060 residential units. He extended thanks to HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and to HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani who laid the foundation stone for this project, and to the Qatari People that spared no effort for supporting the Palestinian people. He also noted that the State of Qatar had donated a billion Dollars for Gaza construction during the donors conference which was held in October 2014.
