Qatar Officially Nominates Dr. Al Kuwari to UNESCO Director General Post

Paris/Information Office/ 16 March 2016/ The State of Qatar officially has announced nominating Cultural Advisor to HH the Emir Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari to the post of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which is supposed to be vacant by November 2017. This came during a reception hosted by HE Qatar's permanent envoy to UNESCO Ali Zainal at the organization's headquarters. At the outset of the function, HE the permanent envoy delivered a speech in which he noted the close cooperation between the State of Qatar and UNESCO since the accession of the State of Qatar to the organization in 1971. The Speech also highlighted the important milestones of rich career of Qatar's candidate HE Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, who has experience at the international level, given the many positions he assumed throughout his career as ambassador of Qatar in Paris, Washington and several Latin American countries, in addition to serving as the State of Qatar's envoy to the United Nations, and representative to UNESCO. UNESCO is a UN agency, that is concerned, in particular, with education, culture and science. It is agreed upon among the (195) Member States of the organization that the next presidency of UNESCO will go to the Arab region. The position of the UNESCO Director-General has never been filled by an Arab.
