New York /Information Office/ 03 September 2016/ The State of Qatar has affirmed its keenness to promote peace and understanding through constructive dialogue among civilizations, and to promote the values of tolerance and cooperation among religions and cultures . It noted that it had sought to establish national institutions with a view to spreading the culture of peace, tolerance and the fight against extremism and rejection of violence at the national, regional and international levels. Qatar also noted that it had adopted the policy of spreading peace among the warring peoples, and made great efforts to resolve disputes through mediation on the basis of the UN Charter, which is based on the principle of an irreplaceable approach of dialogue in resolving disputes between the parties, which yielded satisfactory results for all parties which had been welcomed by the international community. This came in a statement delivered by HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al -Thani, Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations before the high-level forum organized by the United Nations General Assembly on "Culture of Peace". HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia said that the national institutions established by the State of Qatar to spread the culture of peace, have been playing important and active role including "the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue," which helped push efforts to combat extremism and hatred and build bridges cooperation and understanding among followers of different religions, as well as the establishment of "Hamad bin Khalifa Islamic Center" in Copenhagen, Denmark, which aims to support international efforts to promote peaceful coexistence between religions. Qatar was one of the first countries that supported the "United Nations alliance of civilizations," which also plays active role in promoting the culture of peace, and also it hosted the fourth global Forum of the Alliance, which had contributed to laying the foundations for the work of the Alliance. She also referred to the formation of the "Qatari Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations" in order to complete the state's efforts in promoting the culture of dialogue and peace on the national level, where the Committee in collaboration with other institutions and organizations in the country are working on implementing the objectives of the Alliance goals in education, youth, migration and media areas.
