Qatar Calls for Supporting Efforts to Promote Peace and Dalogue in Sudan

Geneva/Information Office/28 September 2016/ The State of Qatar has stressed the need to support efforts to promote peace and dialogue in all parts of Sudan, calling for clear vision and plan on how to attract support for building the capacities of human rights in Sudan. This came in Qatar's speech delivered by HE Faisal bin Abdullah Al Henzab, Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations and other International Organizations Office at Geneva today, during the interactive dialogue session with the independent expert on Sudan, as part of the work of the 33rd session of the Human Rights Council, item (10) on technical assistance and capacity enhancement. HE Ambassador Al Henzab welcomed the convening of the interactive dialogue with the Independent Expert on Sudan, and his report to the Human Rights Council in this session, praising the great cooperation of the government with the independent expert during his recent visit to Sudan. He stressed Qatar's keenness on improvement of human rights situation in the Sudan and through its ongoing efforts to establish peace in Darfur through mediation for reaching a just and lasting peace in Darfur which would be reflected on the stability of the whole of Sudan. He added that these efforts led to the signing of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) in 2011, which the completion of the enforcement of its provisions was recently celebrated. He noted that there was no stability and permanence of peace without development, referring in this context to Qatar' initiative for the development of Darfur by the implementation of typical complexes integrated services to facilitate the return of refugees and displaced persons and their resettlement, and is currently arrangements were taking place for the establishment of the Darfur Development Bank, which is expected to contribute to financing peace, development projects and the reconstruction process. He called for supporting efforts to promote peace and dialogue in Sudan in order to protect and improve human rights situation there.
