Qatar Participates in International Symposium to Promote Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy in Norway

The State of Qatar took part in the third international symposium to discuss ways to strengthen international efforts to reduce highly enriched uranium in the civilian nuclear sector around the world. The symposium was organized by the Norwegian government in Oslo, in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

HE the State of Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani represented Qatar in the international symposium.

The participants discussed ways to support the IAEA's efforts to reduce the use and trade of highly enriched uranium, while maintaining safe and secure standards during the conversion of highly enriched uranium reactors to lowly enriched uranium and filling gaps to prevent terrorists from obtaining nuclear materials.

On the sidelines of the international symposium, HE Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani held meetings with a number of heads of delegation of the participating countries, where he expressed Qatar's keenness and continuous cooperation with the IAEA to promote the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in the world.
