Qatar Chairs General Assembly's Session on Appointments to Fill Vacancies in UN Organs, Subcommittees

The State of Qatar on Thursday presided over a session of the 73rd session of UN General Assembly on appointments to fill vacancies in United Nations organs and subcommittees.

Chaired by HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, as Vice-President of the General Assembly, the session approved the appointments to fill vacancies in the organs and subcommittees of the United Nations. At its meeting, the General Assembly decided to appoint members in the advisory committee on administrative and budgetary affairs, the committee on contributions, the investment committee, the international civil service commission, and the joint inspection unit.

In last June, the General Assembly elected Qatar as Vice-President of the General Assembly.

This election is a recognition by the Member States of the United Nations of the role played by the State of Qatar in the United Nations as well as its distinguished role at the regional and international levels.
