Second Preparatory Session for Qatari-French Strategic Dialogue Held in Paris

The second preparatory session for the strategic dialogue between the State of Qatar and the French Republic was held here today at the French Foreign Ministry, chaired by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, and HE French Secretary of State to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne.

On the Qatari side, the meeting was attended by the delegation accompanying HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, HE the Ambassador of the State of Qatar in Paris, members of the embassy, and representatives of a number of ministries and departments in the country.

On the French side, it was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, HE the Ambassador of France to the State of Qatar, and representatives of a number of ministries and departments.

Discussions focused on ways of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the State of Qatar and the French Republic on issues of bilateral cooperation in the areas of security and defence, sports, economy, investment, development assistance, environmental programs, climate finance, and preparations for the cultural year Qatar-France 2020.

HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs praised the long-standing friendship between Qatar and France, recalling the meeting held in Doha in February this year between HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and HE Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic which resulted in the signing of a declaration of intent between the two countries on the establishment of the strategic dialogue .

In a speech at the beginning of the meeting, HE the Minister stressed the keenness of the State of Qatar to consolidate historical and strategic relations with France, expressing his thanks to the Secretary of State to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs for the warm welcome.

Yesterday, a political consultation session on relations with Africa was held with the participation of representatives from the foreign ministries of the two countries and development institutions.

Discussions focused on the situation in the Horn of Africa, the Central African region, the fight against terrorism and extremism in the Sahel and the Chad basin, as well as prospects for cooperation in development assistance and economic opportunities in the African continent.
